New Triumph Scrambler 1200 – It’s time for Off-Road!

Since the launch of Bonneville T120 in 2016, Triumph incubated a bunch of sub-models, each one with a special character, look and purpose. Sporty Thruxton and upgraded Thruxton R, fancy single-seater Bobber and its two-seater derivative Speedmaster.

Now the full-size Scrambler arrived and in two variants, the spectacular well-equipped Scrambler 1200XC and the most extraordinary XE version.

Both models were designed for incomparable style and potential, for all types of rides.

While the XC delivers extraordinary high-performance road and off-road capability, the XE has a higher specification to meet more extreme off-road challenges still.

The engine arrived from the Thruxton R but with reduced from 97 to 90 hp power output, all in favor of a better mid-range torque (massive 110 nm at 3950 rpm) to suit the off-road intent of the bike. This achieved by tuning the intake, exhaust and ECU.

Interesting technical detail, specially machined barrels of the engine to let the high-mount exhaust system penetrate inside the bike’s body and reduce its overall width, thus allowing the rider to stand on the bike when off-roading.

Suspension is fully adjustable USD Showa 45 mm front fork with 200 mm travel at XC and surprising 250 mm at XE. The lightened aluminium swingarm is there for both models; just the XE’s swingarm is 35 mm longer for better extreme performance off the tarmac. The same is for the rear Ohlins shocks with piggybacks has 200 mm travel for XC and 250 mm for XE.

Both bikes boast effective Brembo M50 brake calipers, superbike-size 320 mm dual discs and cornering ABS system.

The latest cornering traction control is standard of course, and the rider can choose one of five riding modes. The special Off-road mode has less intervention on the front brake and switches off the rear completely so that to lock the wheel when needed; XE’s exclusively Off-road Pro mode switches off all electronic support, including ABS and traction control.

Modern TFT instrument panel was expected and is fitted to the Scrambler 1200, and the list of 80+ options is impressive – heated grips, USB charging socket and mobile device storage area, keyless ignition, cruise control, turn-by-turn navigation built in the speedo and powered by Google maps, integrated GoPro camera with controls on the bars, and much more.

The bike is offering a lot and may fit those who are looking for the stylish adventure machine.
